BEYOND LABELS // Nina Sandino (NI/AT)
“Beyond labels” is part of Nina Sandino´s long-term research ‘How Many Layers?’. An empathy lab in the form of a series of practices, in which she investigates the meaning of care in the garment supply chain.
Clothes, like our skin, are active and busy extensions of our sensory organs, creators of our daily environments. In this practice we are going to place clothes as physical and material extensions of our bodies, and manifestations of our needs.
Bring your favorite and least favorite piece of clothing and share with us your story.
Nina Sandino (NI/AT) Born in the Caribbean, raised on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua, Nina is an architect and performer with a masters in Architecture from Universidad nacional de Ingeniería and a BA in contemporary dance education from Musik und Kunst Universität (MUK). Her work is moved by the urgency of artistic expression as a political action. Her approach is a close alliance between artwork and activism as a response to an era of radical dehumanization, sense of displacement and the will to connect and belong. Her practice focuses on the transmission of ancestral communal knowledge, this process aims to encourage and strengthen the connection within the community through socialization, touch and movement (collective dances). This approach has led to projects with „Tanz die Toleranz“ in Austria and Moldova, with the International Charity Children Flotilla „Kids for freedom“ in Turkey, and TANZ 60 PLUS in Festspielhaus St. Pölten. Has collaborated with musician and theater director Schorsch Kamerun, the artist group notfoundyet (Laia Fabre & Thomas Kasebacher), and with the choreographers Amanda Piña and Doris Uhlich, amongst others. www.ninasandino.com
