Tomaz Simatovic (SI/AT)

is an Austria-based practicing artist, performer, choreographer and lecturer. His artistic work is diverse, experimental and practiced through performance research, improvisation and writing. He is interested in Butoh principles, participatory performance formats, socio-political and activist topics. He studied dance at SEAD Salzburg and received his MA in choreography at ArtEZ Arnhem (NL).
He taught contemporary dance and performance in Europe, USA and Asia. He received the Life Long Burning Program scholarship twice for his research and participation at I.CI – CCN Montpellier. In 2018 he was awarded the annual scholarship for performing arts from the state of Salzburg for his research on participation in performance. In Vienna he has been working artistically with Georg Blaschke since 2014. Since 2016 he has been developing ‘The Performing Solidarity Project’ as collaborative performance research on solidarity and human rights.
