Stone pulsates conjures a speculative myth. Three voices braid into an archaic shape: that of bread, of care, of hair. Together with Veza Fernandez and Edka Jarząb, Zosia Hołubowska explores the connection to the land through song. The mountain becomes a sleeping giantess, or rather a grandmother. Inspired by Marija Gimbutas’ archeomythology and the ideas of deep time, the performers invite the audience to a ritual in which a gesture as simple as looking at a stone opens up the possibility of a life beyond white supremacy and colonialism. Together, the artists craft a sonic environment that encourages listeners to enter a sensory, intimate partnership with their living surroundings.
Edka Jarząb (PL) is a sound artist who uses deep listening as the starting point for sound activism. Her work investigates the voice as a bridge between public and private space. Through singing, improvisation, extended vocal techniques, radio waves, field recordings, and electronics, she creates immersive audio worlds for both solo and collaborative performances. www.secondaryarchive.org/artists/edka-jarzab
Veza Fernandez (ES/AT) is a Vienna-based dance, voice, and performance artist. Her work explores the voice as a place of relation, imagination, and transformation, weaving singing, writing, dance, and speech into intense, polyphonic performances. Her pieces are sensitive and intense, casting polyphonically a convocation of voices and presences that yearn to move and to be moved. Her background stretches between Philology, Pedagogy, Theater, Music and Contemporary Dance. Fields that in one way or the other influence her artistic research and modus operandi within art making and art presenting. Fernandez’ work is strongly rooted locally, infiltrating from within the underground scene bigger dance and theater institutions. She holds a Masters in Choreography from DAS Graduate school (Amsterdam Academy for Theatre and Dance). Her work has been shown amongst other in brut Wien, Tanzquartier Vienna, Sophiensaele Berlin, Gesnerallee Zürich, de Singel Antwerp, La Casa Encendida Madrid. www.vezafernandez.com
